La Luna Easy Armchair and Ottoman (by Kenneth Cobonpue)
I was going to use this Cobonpue furniture for an outdoor scene, so I needed to model it. Seeing the specs detail in the website, I wrapped my head around how to model this. The first thing I thought of was using NURBS curves because of the organic nature of the chair.
However, again I failed to do that. Instead I used old poly-modeling tricks. I created a hemisphere for the lower half of the chair, used free-form-design modifier to fit the hemisphere into the egg-like proportion, then applied an Edit Poly modifier, extruded crude polygons that make up the general shape, and slapped a Mesh Smooth mod with level 3 iterations.
The legs are renderable splines with an Edit Poly mod, the cushions are poly-edited cylinders also with a Mesh Smooth mod.
I could have used Unwrap UVW modifier to correct the mapping of the texture, but I saved that for another experiment. This render don’t do justice to the real thing, but it was a good exercise.
